DIY Wreath Making

As the days have turned more cold and dark and colds are cycling through our house left and right, i’ve been staying home more. I’d like to think of myself as someone who keeps busy and stays active, but this winter I'm finding myself recluse and unmotivated.

Luckily my friends have been good about inviting me out for coffee, library activities and parties, and my FOMO gets me out of the house. My friend Georgie has been especially intentional this winter at hosting events at her house and last night hosted a wreath making party! It was my first time attempting to make a wreath and it was surprisingly easy! I’m so glad she invited me and showed me how to make one, because although it is something I could have done on my own…I just don’t think I would have attempted it solo.

Being that we live in New Hampshire, Georgie sourced hemlock and laurel from the woods. She literally cut it and put it into laundry baskets and pillowcases. She bought metal hoops from a local nursery and metal wire off of Amazon-- making this DIY project less than $10 per wreath! And we enjoyed a fun Friday evening together which was so fun.

We started by gathering as much greenery as we’d like, and laying it onto our metal hoop. We then circled our wire around it to hold it in place. We then gathered more greenery and placed it on top of the previous greenery stems, creating a full bodied wreath with no wire or stems showing. We repeated this process around the ring. As you can see my little helper grew weary of watching from the sling and played on the floor amongst the scraps for a while 🤣

My finished product below at home! It may make it’s way onto a wall for decoration, but for now it’s making a nice centerpiece for our xandles!
